MARIAN RIVERA: from Marimar to Darna

Yesterday Marian Rivera was given an advance birthday party in SOP(Sobrang Okay Pare) in GMA7, where she was greeted by all of her friends in showbiz and her fellow kapuso stars.

Marian Rivera one of the most famous actress and commercial model here in the Philippines, was born Marian Gracia Rivera on August 12, 1984 in Madrid, Spain to Francisco Javier Gracia Alonso, a Spaniard and Amalia Rivera, a Filipina. When her parents separated 2 years after her birth her mother decided to return with her here in the Philippines in her mother's hometown in Cavite City.

Marian or YAN-YAN to her friends took up BA Psychology at De La Salle University-Dasmarinias in Cavite, she started out as a ramp model and eventually ventured in TV commercials. She started out in showbiz 1st of January 2005, she first starred in afternoon soap operas for TAPE Inc. and GMA Network. She was also seen in the movie Enteng Kabisote 2: Okay Ka Fairy Ko: The Legend Continues, before GMA used to cast her in mother roles in Muli(a Philippine-Malaysian afternoon drama) and Super Twins(a prime time fantasy soap opera). Her big break came 2 years after she entered showbiz, when she was given the title role in the Philippine remake of the Mexican telenovela of Thalia MARIMAR. With her innocent looks she immediately captured the hearts of Filipino viewers, and eventually she was entrusted with the lead roles in other prime time soaps including Dyesebel and Ang Babaeng Hinugot sa Aking Tadyang.


Marian also believes in good luck charms she haves a Sto. Niño Ball which is given by her mother, she also talks to her cars which she also consider her lucky charms even giving them names, they are “Cariño” and “Amigo!”. She used to have a pet Shi Tzu which she had to give away for she is allergic to dogs.

Marian is once again given a title role in Mars Ravelo's Darna, a famous Filipina Superhero that was been portrayed by big stars like Vilma Santos. Tonight is the big premiere of the fantasy soap in GMA 7, where Marian who's previously Marimar would fly high as the Philippine's newest Darna.
